The whole person :
Conventional wisdom asserts that many physical problems have their origins in the mental, emotional and social aspects of our lives. When our psychological health is compromised, our physical health declines. And the same is true of the opposite. When we are physically compromised, especially chronically ill, our mental health often takes a heavy toll. So the key to developing and maintaining overall health is creating a healthy balance that keeps you physically and mentally sound. Often times, when folks come to therapy, they are already mentally and/or physically taxed. In such cases, finding balance can be challenging, but working with a supportive and knowledgeable professional is often just what is needed to set the course toward an improved state of being.
I focus on helping you achieve balance, a goal which requires exploring and acknowledging yourself as a whole person. Mental and physical health go hand-in-hand and cannot be separated. So, when you experience a mental health condition, all aspects of your life should be explored including genetic predisposition, emotional state, home life, readiness for change, level of physical activity, food choices, sleep quality, environmental stressors and of course, relationships and support system.
Once the root of the problem is unearthed, you can begin the process of making positive choices that enhance your life psychologically, physically, socially and environmentally. My goal is to guide you toward balance and help to identify and resolve areas where you’ve become stuck. There are no guarantees, however, many times the relationship forged in therapy along with evidence based intervention and your sincere desire for positive change constitute the right ingredients for a successful therapy outcome.
Direction and focus move us forward, so I approach therapy from a solution focused perspective and practice evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I am a firm believer in brief, targeted therapy that is focused on the issues you bring to the table. Treatment is often completed in 5 to 15 sessions with a plan for maintenance after therapy has ended.
Areas of Focus:
Depression
Anxiety
Problems related to poor health choices (failure to relax, workaholism, poor nutrition, lack of exercise, sleep problems, self neglect)
Health conditions contributing to depression/anxiety
Low energy/lack of motivation
