Aura Garza is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) with the State of Texas, under the supervision of Mark Cagle, LPC-Supervisor. She started her career as an engineer but after having her daughter diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), she returned to school and earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from the Texas A & M University – CT &Tarleton State University in 2010 and a Graduate Certificate in Behavioral Analysis from University of North Texas in 2016. She is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst Supervisor and a Licensed Behavior Analyst since in 2017. She has been providing Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Therapy and Behavioral Consultation for children and adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, as well as training and support for parents and other professionals involved with her clients treatment. Aura specializes in a plethora of challenges, including trauma (PTSD, C-PTSD), behavioral issues, anger management, parenting, neurodivergence, family issues, depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and more. She uses various techniques and methods in therapy to include, but not limited to, applied behavioral analysis, Parent/Child relationship training, behavior management programs, anger management techniques, techniques from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) focuses on the development of personal coping strategies that target solving problems and changing unhelpful patterns in cognition and emotional regulation), techniques in Schema Therapy (Schema therapy case conceptualization is used to describe patient symptoms, identify current triggers, propose mechanisms for the emergence and maintenance of problems, and provides a ‘story’ about how the patients problems might be resolved.), Polyvagal Therapy (supports clients in re-patterning the ways their autonomic nervous systems operate when the drive to survive competes with the longing to connect with others), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (helps patients stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings, understand their origin and their function in guiding behavior as well as help the client understand how avoidance could lead to suffering). She also has been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy (This method involves bilateral stimulation (moving one’s eyes a specific way) while the client processes traumatic memories. EMDR has been proven very successful in helping the client heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences).
