Ruth Saenz, LPC

Ruth Saenz is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has experience working with children, adolescents and adults. Ruth earned a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from St. Edward’s University and Bachelor of Science in Organizational Behavior from the University of San Francisco. Ruth completed her clinical internship at the Center for Child Protection.
Ruth currently specializes in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) psychotherapy. She also has experience working with clients diagnosed with Schizophrenia Disorder, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, Substance Use Disorder, Eating Disorders and Major Depressive Disorder. Ruth utilizes an eclectic approach to therapy and uses CBT, DBT, and Art/Play Therapy modalities. Ruth’s philosophy regarding her clients, is that people are resilient and can overcome their trauma and hardships, especially with expert assistance. She believes we are not defined by our circumstances. Ruth believes that life is a tapestry - and it is beautiful (even with its imperfections).
Ruth has over 5 year of various counseling experience working with diverse populations and uses a cultural competency approach with her clients. In her career, she has worked with children/adolescents and their family members that have survived physical/sexual abuse or witnessed a violent crime. Ruth has also worked in the community, including a crisis residential facility assisting adults with acute mental illness.
In her free time, Ruth enjoys spending time with her family and friends, practicing yoga, meditation/mindfulness, hiking, painting and listening to live music. Ruth was born and raised in Texas and has lived in Austin for over 10 years; however, she has also lived in California and Colorado. She is an avid traveler and has been to Prague, Milan, Berlin, London, the Caribbean, and Mexico.
Ruth has always believed in giving back to the community, and does so by feeding the homeless, working with a local labor relations organization, political campaigns, serving as an event coordinator, and volunteering at a children’s advocacy center.
