Janet Leese, LCSW

Welcome! I’m glad you’re here.
I specialize in working with adults/elderly struggling with medical challenges (such as cancer), chronic illness (young and old), caregiving (for children, spouses, elderly parents), and life changes that come with a diagnosis. I’ve worked with patients dying from illnesses and their grieving family and friends. I have experience supporting and educating parents on parenting and special needs. I also have experience helping clients with addiction/sobriety, mental illness (depression/anxiety), domestic violence, and abuse.
I love helping clients to develop coping skills to support them through times of stress. They increase knowledge about their situation that supports healthy decisions and changes. They gain confidence in themselves while decreasing uncomfortable feelings such as shame, guilt, sadness, and hopelessness. I utilize a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach that’s client centered.
My background: B.A. in Psychology and in Women’s Studies (focus on Race, Class, and Gender in US), minor in Adult Development and Aging, and a Masters in Social Work, emphasis in Gerontology. I’ve previously worked in Adult Day Care, a Caregiver Resource Center, Hospice (at home/facility and inpatient), and led support groups for people with dementia as well as caregiver groups for the Alzheimer’s Association. I had internships doing hospital discharge planning, as well as community case management.
In my free time you can find me watching my kiddos play sports, reading, or walking our adorable rescue dogs.
